When Youth Rise: Madagascar’s Military Takeover and the Call for Peace

In October 2025, weeks of protests in Madagascar turned into a dramatic political shift. Frustrated by corruption and inequality, thousands of young people took to the streets demanding change. Their movement gained unexpected support when Colonel Michael Randrianirina led the military to oust President Andry Rajoelina.

While many citizens celebrated this as a victory for the people, the move has drawn international concern. The African Union suspended Madagascar, urging a swift return to civilian rule and respect for human rights.

This event reminds us of the growing voice of Africa’s youth and the delicate balance between justice and peace. True change must come through dialogue, accountability, and the rule of law—not force.

At United for Peace Foundation, we stand for peaceful transitions, strong institutions, and youth empowerment. Real peace begins when every voice is heard.
